Pay symbols can appear stacked covering a number of positions on a reel. Low pays are J’s – A’s while medium symbols are a range of flowers in  blue, purple and red colors and top symbol is a golden butterfly. Wild symbol is a blossoming flower, substituting for all symbols except scatters. A flower arrangement with the word “Scatter” across it is the scatter symbol that can appear on any reel.

 

Butterfly Re-Spin Feature

A full stack of Butterflies will activate the Re-Spin Feature, moving all Butterfly symbols to the leftmost position on the same row. Any further Butterfly symbols landing on the Re-Spin will move as well to the left until no further symbols land on the reels or the screen is complete with Butterfly symbols. Our first few hundred test spins showed that the feature activated frequently with about 2/3’s ending in a win, while the reminder had no further butterflies added in the re-spin. The highest win we hit was roughly 54x bet, although the maximum is at 600x bet with a full screen of butterflies.

 

 

Butterfly Free Spins

3, 4 or 5 Scatters landing on a spin anywhere on the reels will award 5, 6 or 7 Free Spins. During the Butterfly Free Spins only Cocoon symbols can land on the reels. Any active Cocoons will transform into Butterfly symbols which then fly to the leftmost position, just like in the Re-Spin feature, and will remain sticky until the end of the bonus round. Wins are paid on each spin that has at least two butterflies on a pay line.

 

 

First Verdict

At first glance Butterfly Staxx™ seems well-designed with decent graphics and animations as well as a relaxing soundtrack. The new pay mechanism is wonderful to watch and promises to have some surprise mega or even super mega wins in store when the reels are getting covered with butterflies during the feature. However, the line pays look very low at just 15x bet for a 5OAK top symbol, and will only make a significant difference if it happens on multiple lines, preferably on all 40 pay lines to produce the maximum payout for this slot of 600x bet.

Whether it will become a players’ favorite remains to be seen though since it is low variance with medium win potential and not out-of-this-world animations. Only time will tell when it will be released on 21st June 2107.

First Verdict

To be honest, I don’t understand all the secrecy about this latest creation. It is at best a medium variance game with low line pays, no multipliers, no random features and only one type of Free Spins with no additional features, making it overall just an average new slot that will be suitable for grinding through a bonus wagering requirement. High wins above 1,000x bet should not be expected as the top pay for a single spin is just 500x bet which will need though to have either a full screen of Red Cat or Wild symbol.

I expect it though to be quite popular with the cute kittens, enjoyable soundtrack and the relatively high hit rate for the bonus round which will probably pay on average around 20 – 30x bet. My first few spins on the game were certainly not boring but I wish Netent would release more of the likes of Jungle Spirit: Call of the Wild that has huge win potential compared to Copy Cats.

Is this an awesome sequel to Red Riding Hood? Not too sure, to be honest. 10 pay-lines, 400x bet as maximum single spin pay, Free Spins with no multiplier, a rather simple bonus game and a quite plain slot design do not provide that much suspension and awe that we expect nowadays from new slot releases. But it can be a very likeable, medium variance video slot which provides ample entertainment and frequent enough smallish wins to avoid a quick bust.

Today, we can reveal the game information about Butterfly Staxx™, the sequel to Neon Staxx™ that will be released on 21st June 2017. The slot looks well-designed with a game window set in front of a nature scene, featuring an airy soundtrack for a relaxed gaming experience. Pay symbols are J’s-A’s at the low end and three intricate flowers in blue, purple and red at the high end. Top symbols are the butterflies which appear stacked in the base game and Free Spins.

The Re-Spin feature will see the butterflies gathering on the leftmost positions to form multiple pay lines if more are landing on the re-spins. The Free Spins feature will award up to 7 Butterfly Spins where only cocoons are on the reels and those active will transform into butterflies to fly as well towards the leftmost possible position on the same row, giving potential for mega wins as the screen fills up with those beautiful golden butterflies.

On top the so called ‘in-feature’ features are becoming a standard addition to provide more suspense and excitement. Want to know what that means? Recently Netent has been adding extra features into Free Spins or Bonus rounds. Scruffy Duck comes with no less than five of those which are randomly selected before the Free Spins round starts.

But let’s not judge the book by its cover and take a closer look at the game before making our minds up. The slot is set in front of a lake pond complete with frogs, sea flowers as well as humming bees that are flying through the screen. Not really sure what to think of this latest Netent slot. While it is appealing to the eye, well-designed with flawless animations and what seem to be set for entertaining gaming sessions I am still wondering why Netent insists on going for the cartoon-like style. Most gamers are well out of their kids shoes and years, hence my thought is that they are directing the latest releases at the very young generation who are just old enough to enter the gaming market. Whilst there is nothing wrong with that it still has a somewhat awkward feel.

Other than that, the slot is well made, plenty of entertaining features which seem to hit frequently enough to avoid boredom and quick busts and even has good win potential when the Expanding or Colossal Wilds are in play.

Final Words

Hmmm, I am sort of in between with this slot. While it seems very entertaining and graphically well made I am somewhat hesitant to think that it will produce big wins on a regular basis. On top the highest single pay is only 50x stake, far from the likes of similar 10-liners such as Book of Ra / Book of Dead with 500x stake. But then those are very high variance games and sure balance killers if they don’t perform while Wild Wild West: The Great Train Heist™ is rather low to medium variance giving the player less potential for big wins but longer lasting entertainment.

Other than that, I think the slot is well designed, has ample features, awesome animations and should be on everyone’s “must try” list when it is released on 23rd February 2017.
