Asgardian Stones™ slot preview!

Update 4th January 2018: You can read now our full slot review of Asgardian Stones™ here.

First details on the second game release in 2018 from Swedish gaming giant Netent. Due for launch on 22nd February 2018, we expect Asgardian Stones™ to be deeply rooted in Nordic mythology with typical characters and items from the universe of the Norse Gods. Thrilling action with plenty of suspense and awe is mostly a given when those powerful gods are in play, most notably in Netent’s epic Hall of Gods™ Progressive Slot. Lets hope it will be the case with this Netent slot as well.

Quote from Wikipedia: The Norn Stones are fictional powerful magical items from Asgard, featured in the Marvel Universe. Asgard is the name of a fictional realm and its capital city appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Based on the realm of the same name from Norse mythology, Asgard is home to the Asgardians and other beings adapted from Norse mythology. Asgard first appeared in Journey into Mystery #83 (October 1962) by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby, and features prominently in stories that follow the Marvel Comics superhero, Thor.

So far, we have not much information as to which format the new Netent slot will have and what kind of features and gamification it will provide. But knowing the creativeness of the Swedish Netent studios, they will surely take great care again to produce something worthy of the legendary Norse Gods, featuring some special pay mechanisms, great design, stunning animations and suspenseful gaming sessions with high win potential.

We are scouring daily the web and question our sources at Netent to find more information on this new video slot. Rest assured, that we will update our post the soon we get to know more details about Asgardian Stones™. Check back regularly to read the latest news.

Witchcraft Academy Slot

Mystery awaits you!

Join Efora, the Witch and Earthan, the Wizard in their quest for magic treasures on Witchcraft Academy, the latest slot creation by Netent released on 20th December 2017. Let the game lead  you to this most ancient and mysterious school of magic full of puzzles, secrets, spells and mega wins of up to 160,000 coins or 800x bet.

The game window is set in front of the library of the academy, which holds the ancient books and scrolls that the two main characters are searching for hints to the hidden treasures. Sharp graphics and flawless animations are accompanied by a fitting mysterious soundtrack. Witchcraft Academy is a video slot with 5 reels, 4 rows and 20 fixed pay lines, featuring Wild substitutions, stacked Wilds, an Elements Bonus game and Free Spins with extra features.

TRTP of this medium to high variance game is set at 96.38%, featuring a maximum win in a single spin of 160,000 coins or 800x stake for a full screen of Earthan in Free Spins with a x2 multiplier. Bet sizes range from €0.20 – €200, which can be adjusted with the usual Netent controls. AutoPlay allows players to choose up to 1,000 spins to be run consecutively with a range of options as to when it should stop. The slot is in HTML5 format available on desktop, mobile and tablet across all OS platforms.

Pay symbols can be stacked and start at the low end with hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades shaped potion bottles, continuing at the high end with an owl, a dragon, Efora the Witch and Earthan the wizard. Pays for a single 5OAK range from 2x – 20x bet. Wild is an armor shield with “W” across it. Scatters are intricate tiles with the word “Bonus” across them.

Elements Bonus Game

Three or more bonus symbols anywhere on the reels in one spin will award the feature. The Elements Bonus is a 5-column, 4-row grid game with Coin Win symbols, Armour Guard symbols, and Scatter symbols that are representing four different Free Spins Features.

Players can choose Efora or Earthan to fire row by row a random Element Shot at one of the columns to unveil one of three options. The number of shots in the bonus game are equivalent to the amount of scatters that triggered the feature.

  • Coin Win symbol: awards wins between 10 – 200 x bet
  • Armour Guard symbol: explodes, hitting horizontally and vertically all symbols adjacent to it and awarding the uncovered coin wins or Scatters
  • Scatters: unlocks the Free Spins feature the symbol represents; options are x2 Multiplier, +5 Free Spins, Overlay Wild Reel 1 and Overlay Wild Reel 5.

If 3 or more Scatter symbols are hit during the Elements Bonus, Free Spins are activated with the unlocked features. More Free Spins can be won with 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 Bonus symbols during the Free Spins awarding 5 | 10 | 15 | 20 additional Free Spins.

First Verdict

Not much was known about this latest offering from Netent until they actually released it. Thinking that it would be an exclusive to a chosen casino group, we did not anticipate a release before January 2018. Surprisingly, the game went live late December 2017, however, at press time we have yet to see it on the games list at any casino.

Back to our first impression, we have to admit that we are not big fans of 4-row slots with just 20 pay lines and usually expect at least 40 lines or more for such game layouts. Nevertheless, Witchcraft Academy looks entertaining, especially when shooting at those columns in the bonus game. Win potential is rather medium with a maximum of 800x bet on a single spin, which can only happen in Free Spins with the x2 multiplier unlocked in the bonus game and a full screen of Earthan symbols.

To date, we had no opportunity to do our test runs, hence, we will publish a full review once Netent posts the game in their test area.

Cosmic Eclipse™ slot pre-view!

First details on the new Netent slot!

Exclusive to the Betsson Group, Cosmic Eclipse™ will be released on 12th December 2017. It is yet another joint creation between the two giants of the gaming industry. The last production goes back to the beginning of 2017 when they launched Wolf Cub™, a cute cartoon-style 20-pay lines slot with a gang of five forest animals, exciting new pay mechanics and a Free Spins feature. It has since been released globally as the exclusive agreement expired after six months.

Cosmic Eclipse™ is a video slot with 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 pay lines, featuring Wild substitutions and Cosmic Symbol bonus feature. TRTP of this medium variance game has been set at 96.52% with a maximum win on a single spin of 400x stake. Bet sizes range from 0.10 – 100, which can be adjusted with the usual Netent controls. AutoPlay allows players to choose up to 1,000 spins to be run consecutively with a range of options as to when it should stop.

Pay symbols are differently colored stone chippings and and a range of planets. The bonus symbol is an purple cosmic swirl that appears on reel 5 only. No Wilds or scatters on this slot.

The only bonus feature on Cosmic Eclipse™ is triggered when a cosmic swirl lands anywhere on the reel five. The swirl activates on the right of the game window, randomly choosing one symbol present on the spin and collecting it in a symbol meter surrounding the swirl. A re-spin is activated, further adding more of chosen symbols if they land again on the re-spin. The sum of the selected symbols is randomly placed on the reels, once no further selected symbols hit the reels on a re-spin, with all other reel positions blanked out. Collecting 15 symbols will correspond to a full screen of the selected symbol, representing the moment the slot can produce the maximum win for a single spin of 400x bet.

We will publish a full review with graphics once the slot is released!

Universal Monsters™: The Phantom’s Curse™ slot preview!

Update 9th December 2017: You can read now our full review here!

First details on Netent’s next game creation from their licensing agreement with Universal Monsters™. Due for release on 24th January 2018, The Phantom’s Curse™ will line-up with the likes of The Invisible Man™, Dracula™ and The Creature of the Black Lagoon™ that have all become popular players’ favorites after their release.

All are based on epic horror movies from Universal Monsters™, the originals mostly dating back to the 1920’s silent movie era when real acting skills were needed to get the action to the audience. With only scarce text screens in between, a movie relied heavily on actor talents to produce a successful show that would bring across the right amount of suspense and thrill to the cinema goers. In those days, a music band would play live the movie soundtrack on stage to increase the impact on the viewers as tapes were not available yet. Hard work at that time which today has advanced into an universe of modern technology that can create any kind of movie character or scene.

Questions over questions are in our head as to how the slot will look like. So far, we have little information as to which format the new Netent slot will have and what kind of features and gamification it will provide. But knowing the creativeness of the Swedish Netent studios, they will surely take great care again to produce something worthy of the Universal Monsters™ epic name, featuring some special pay mechanisms, great design, stunning animations and suspenseful gaming sessions with high win potential.

We are scouring daily the web and question our sources at Netent to find more information on this new video slot. We will update our post the soon we get to know more details about The Phantom’s Curse™. Check back regularly to read the latest news.

Meanwhile, you can have fun with all other Netent slots.

Finn and the Swirly Spin™ slot preview!

The title for last new slot from the Netent studios for 2017 was revealed at the beginning of September and today we got the first glimpse on how it looks and plays. It goes by the name of Finn and the Swirly Spin™ which sounds very much like an adventure story that could swirl us into mega wins.

A total surprise is the game window as it does not feature the usual reels, rows and pay lines with symbols landing on the reels. Instead, as the name suggests, they follow a spiral pattern starting at the outside corner and ending in the center position. This new spin mechanic looks exciting and is a welcome change from the norm.

The game takes us to the emerald isle where a magical leprechaun called Finn awaits your arrival in Finn and the Swirly Spin™. This 5-reel, 5-row video slot features a Wild Symbol, a Free Spins Key, 4 different types of Free Spins and a Random Feature with 4 variations.

TRTP of this medium variance game is set at 96.61%, featuring a maximum win of 500 coins for a single 5OAK. The maximum win on a single spin with consecutive avalanches has not been published yet. Bet sizes start a $0.10 and go up to $100, easily adjustable with the known Netent controls for coin denomination and bet levels. The game is in HTML5 format, making it available on desktop, mobile and tablet across all OS platforms.

Only six pay symbols on this slot, excluding the Wild symbol, with spades, heart, clover, horseshoe, hazelnut and a red gem in ascending order. Wild symbol is a smiling yellow star created when winning combinations explode during a spin. No scatters on the reels as the bonus features are triggered when the key symbol reaches the center of the swirl in one spin.

Finn and the Swirly Spin™ Random Features

The game comes with no less than four random features, which are activated once all symbols have come to rest on a spin:

  • Starfall Wilds: Minimum 2 Wilds are randomly placed on any position, except on top of the locked key symbol. If no win occurs, more Wilds are added until a win is hit
  • Dragon Destroy: A random number of symbols are destroyed, activating another avalanche
  • Irish Luck: A vertical or horizontal line is transformed into one symbol, guaranteeing a win
  • Magic Transform: All spade and heart symbols are transformed into a higher value symbol

Finn and the Swirly Spin™ Free Spins Features

On top of the random features, the game surprised us with four types of Free Spins. The bonus feature is activated when the locked key symbol makes it to the center of the swirl on one spin. Each Free Spins feature needs a specific amount of collected keys to be open for selection.

  • The Star Bar – 1 key: 7 Free Spins with the Starfall Wilds feature
  • Lava Lair – 4 keys: 3 Free Spins with the Dragon Destroy feature
  • Lucky Mug – 9 keys: 4 Free Spins with the Irish Luck feature
  • Golden Pot – 16 keys: 2 Free Spins with the Magic Transform feature

First Verdict

This looks like an exciting and entertaining game with a unique mechanic that has never been seen before in a slot game. Already, our first spins had us on our toes whether the key would make it to the center of the swirl. Our first impression is that it has medium volatility and wins in excess of 50x bet should be easily achievable on a frequent basis. The Free Spins were not triggered as often as we were hoping but than that might be down to bad luck and may not be representative on how the game will play in the long run.

We will have soon more detailed information on all other aspects of this game and will publish them the soon they are available. Meanwhile, we wish you happy spinning and good luck on all other Netent slots, while we keep our eyes and ears open.

Planet of the Apes™ slot preview!

Planet of the Apes™ is the latest video slot brought to you by NetEnt™ in association with 20th Century Fox. Based on the two movies – Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – the game takes the player on a journey between the two different phases of the Ape Army leader Caesar’s life.

The game features the Rise and Dawn play areas, each with 5-reels, 3-rows, and 20-lines (fixed), the Rise and Dawn Free Spins, Bonus symbols, Scatter symbols, Wild substitutions, a Stacked Wild feature, a Dual feature and the Rise and Dawn Bonus features. With its dual reels, the game combines elements from the two movies with the excitement of slot game play to deliver a truly unique Planet of the Apes
experience. So it’s lights, camera, action time with Netent’s Planet of the Apes slot game – Caesar is home!

The Planet of the Apes™ themed reels and background, along with the fast-paced features, all contribute to create a slot with a strong connection to the two Planet of the Apes movies. Add to this the Rise and Dawn Free Spins features, with authentic film footage from the two movies appearing in the intros, and the game builds up to create a tangible Planet of the Apes experience. The classic graphics, with human and ape symbols, recreates the famous film characters. Add to this the authentic sounds, voices and animations that all combine perfectly to create a truly unique gaming experience for players.

Planet of the Apes Dual Feature

This can activate randomly on any spin. If the Dual feature is triggered, one symbol is chosen for each play area with the same symbol not able to be chosen for both play areas and Wild and Scatter symbols also unable to be chosen. The reels only contain these two symbols, the rest of the reels are blank spaces. If a symbol lands in its corresponding play area when the reels stop, it sticks. If a symbol lands in the other play area, it transfers over to the correct play area into the corresponding position.

If at least one new symbol appears in its corresponding play area, the game re-spins which continues until now new symbols land on a re-spin.

Planet of the Apes Bonus Features

Each of the dual reels has its own base game features and Free Spins with a particular twist:

Rise Area:

  • The Rise Bonus feature is an additional coin win that is awarded for every human and ape symbol displayed on the screen except for the Scatter symbol and only appears on the Rise play area.
  • Rise Free Spins: During the feature only the Rise play area is active and the number of Wild symbols that land on each spin are collected in a Wild meter on the screen. Each Wild symbol landing on reels will add to the meter by 1. On the last spin, after the reels stop spinning (but before any wins are evaluated) all collected Wild symbols are randomly placed on the play area and, once this has finished, the win will be evaluated.

Dawn Area

  • The Dawn Bonus feature transforms ape and human symbols into the same symbol and only appears in the Dawn play area.
  • Dawn Free Spins: During the feature only the Dawn play area is active with 3 different collect symbols that activate a corresponding meter: Multiplier, Extra Wild and Extra Free Spins. When a collect symbol lands, it fills the corresponding meter by 1. When the meter is full, it activates a feature with each meter requiring 3 symbols to become full. The Extra Free Spins meter awards 3 extra Free Spins every time it is filled.
The player starts the Dawn Free Spins with multiplier 1. Each time the Multiplier meter is filled the multiplier is increased by 1, until
the x5 multiplier is reached. The current multiplier/Wild symbol will be highlighted on the game screen. The Extra Wild meter turns one of the human symbols into an Extra Wild symbol every time it is filled for the remainder of the Free Spins.

First Verdict

Planet of the Apes™ looks like a really entertaining and suspenseful slot, just like the two movies. With an RTP of 96.33% and a maximum win on a single spin of 600,000 coins or 3,000x bet it certainly is worth taking for a spin or two when it is released on 23rd October 2017.

Emoji Planet™ – Slot Preview

All details about the latest Netent slot!

Although announced in Q1 / 2017, it took until today to get a first glance at the latest Netent creation, named Emoji Planet. Scheduled to be launched on 23rd August 2017 to coincide with the release of the movie, we anticipated a highly entertaining, funny and quirky game that would lighten up our slotting days.

The first look after loading the game had my jaw dropping. Two “grannies” line-dancing through the screen! Really, Netent? Well, let’s look past that “faux pas” and move on as the first impression might not be what the game will actually produce.

Fans of Gemix, Golden Ticket or Viking Runecraft will immediately screem “clone”, “copy” or similar. The pay mechanic is indeed similar with what Netent is calling Cluster Pays. Avalanching symbols falling into place, with minimum five horizontally or vertically adjacent symbols needed for the lowest pay, the top pay being awarded for 30 symbols. The symbols from a winning combinations are removed and replaced with new ones for potentially more wins. Until now, exactly similar to the above mentioned games.

Pay symbols are a mixture of emoji symbols such as blue hearts, rocket, bomb, pizza slice. Top symbol is a big yellow smiley face, awarding the top pay for the game of 500x bet for a cluster of 30 symbols. To spice up the game, Netent has given it five bonus features which are activated by collecting 12 symbols of the those indicated on the right of the screen.

TRTP of this medium variance game is 96.4% with bet sizes ranging from $0.20 – $200, adjusted with the usual Netent controls for bet level and denomination. Emoji Planet will be available for play on desktop, mobile and tablet across all OS platforms.

Emoji Planet is 5×6 grid video slot with cascading symbols, Cluster Pays™, regular and sticky Wilds and five bonus features. Minimum five adjacent symbols are needed in a cluster for a winning combination. After the win is paid they are getting removed and new symbols fall down to produce potentially more wins.

Emoji Planet Bonus Features

The game comes with no less than  five bonus features for added excitement and higher win potential. On the right of the game window are five Emoji meters displaying the low paying symbols. A winning combination of one of the symbols on a cascade will illuminate part of the meter with the amount of symbols in the cluster. Twelve symbols are needed to fully illuminate the meter and award the respective bonus feature once the last winning cascade in the current spin is completed.

  • Bomb Feature: 8 random tiles are on the reels are destroyed and a coin win of 5x – 100x bet for each destroyed symbol is awarded
  • Pizza Feature: a 3×3 mega symbol, excluding the Wild symbol, is randomly place on the reels
  • Kiss Mark Feature: 3 sticky Wild symbols are randomly placed on the reels. Each has three lives with one live being lost when it forms part of a winning combination after an avalanche. The round ends when all three lives are lost
  • Rocket Feature: a stack of 10 Wild symbols is randomly place on or above one of the reels to produce guaranteed winning combinations. After each avalanche the stack moves down, ending the round when no more Wilds are visible
  • Two Hearts Feature: the feature is only activated when no more winning combinations land on an avalanche and no other features are to be activated. When it is activated, it multiplies the current win by the amount of times the meter was filled plus one.

First Verdict

Is this new Netent creation the holy grail of slots? To be honest, I was not that impressed. First, design and graphics look like they been put together in a hurry. Secondly, the maximum win is just 500x bet, meaning this is yet another low – medium game which will give long play sessions but never any super big wins a la Dead or Alive. Third, those feature were sure hard to trigger, it took me nearly 30 minutes to finally collect once 12 symbols on a spin and then it paid a mere 17x bet.

Well, I will have some more spins on it over the next days, it might just make me smile in the end but the real test will come once it is released when it remains to be seen how players will react to it.

The Legend of Shangri-La: Cluster Pays! – slot preview

Update 8th August 2017: We have meanwhile published our full review of The Legend of Shangri-La™: Cluster Pays, which can be found here.

The latest details on the new Netent Slot!

The last month of Q3/2017 will see the release of The Legend of Shangri-La: Cluster Pays™, a mythical and mysterious addition to the already popular Aloha! Cluster Pays™. Ready for release on 21st September 2017, the slot will remind players of an earthy paradise, bringing them to the ethereal and harmonious world of Shangri-La.

Quote from Wikipedia: “Shangri-La is a fictional place described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton, where he describes Shangri-La as a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. The name also evokes the imagery of exoticism of the Orient. In the ancient Tibetan scriptures, existence of seven such places is mentioned as Nghe-Beyul Khembalung. Khembalung is one of several beyuls (“hidden lands” similar to Shangri-La) believed to have been created by Padmasambhava in the 9th century as idyllic, sacred places of refuge for Buddhists during times of strife (Reinhard 1978).Some scholars believe that the Shangri-La story owes a literary debt to Shambhala, a mythical kingdom in Tibetan Buddhist tradition, which was sought by Eastern and Western explorers. ”

Now that represents a challenge for the design team at Netent. It will be interesting to see what graphics, animations and soundtrack they will come up with to do that justice. Of course, that goes on top of producing a exciting game with thrilling features and big win potential. Anything less than that would be a disappointment.

Aloha! Cluster Pays™ was received with some reservations on its release but went on to become a player favorite. Netent got everything right on that slot, new pay mechanisms, a funny surfer Tiki providing extra entertainment and that volcano erupting on big wins represents the icing on the cake. Top that with a 1,000x bet as maximum win on one spin and you have a thrilling game that is worthy to be on anyone’s favorite games list.

I am not sure if Netent will include those features on the new slot but the name implies that it will have a similar pay mechanism, maybe with some alterations to add even more excitement to the reels. A Free Spins round and some random feature are to be expected as well to give the slot more choices to produce big and mega wins.

Time will tell, rest assured we will update this page as more details come to light. In the meantime, you can enjoy some other Netent games, make sure to check back here regularly to find the latest information on The Legend of Shangri-La: Cluster Pays

Phantom of the Opera™ – Slot Preview

Blockbuster slot in the making!

Wow, this has taken me be surprise as I looked up Netent’s site today to see what will be upcoming in the next few weeks. Earlier this year they announced a Universal Monsters title leaving everybody guessing as to which blockbuster they will chose. Today it was finally revealed as I got my hands on a game sheet for the Phantom of the Opera slot, due for release on 24th July 2017.

And it looks pretty special at first sight with a opera theater as background and a frameless game window. Phantom of the Opera will be a 5-reel, 4-row, 40-pay lines (fixed) video slot, paying both ways with stacked symbols, Wild substitutions, a Pick-and-Click Bonus Game, Free Spins and a random Phantom Re-Spin feature. That sounds all pretty exciting, let’s see what other details I was able to dig out, although no preview play was available to get a real feel for this slot.

Netent has given to what seems to be a low – medium variance game a TRTP of 96.57% and a maximum win on a single pay line of 4,000 coins or 20x stake. Not an awful lot but considering that all symbols are stacked it could lead to a total win of 160,000 coins or 800x bet with a full screen of the top symbol. Bet sizes range from $0.20 – $200, adjusted with the usual controls and buttons for coin denominations and bet levels. The slot will be in HTML5 format available on desktop, mobile and tablet across all OS platforms.

Pay symbols start at the low end with clubs, spades, hearts and diamonds and continue on the medium level with a knife, a white pearl, a yellow rose and a ring with a red gem. Top symbols are Christine and the Phantom. Pays for 5OAK range from 20 to 200 coins. There are a range of Phantom Wild symbols while scatters are a traditional Chandelier.

Masked Phantom Re-Spin with Sticky Wilds

The Masked Phantom Re-Spin is triggered when a Stacked Phantom symbol lands on reel 1 and a Stacked Mask symbol lands on reel 5. The Bonus Stacked Symbols, as well as Mask symbols and Phantom symbols visible during the spin that activated the Re-Spin, turn into Wilds and stick on the reels for one free Re-Spin.

Pick-and-Click Bonus Game

The Pick and Click bonus game is triggered when the two Stacked Phantom symbols land on reel 1 and two Stacked Christine symbol land on reel 5. Free Spins and Bonus Features cannot be triggered at the same time. Maximum win in the bonus game is 7,200 coins which can be achieved in two stages:

  • Stage 1 – pick from 8 roses with some of them having coin wins in them and some having blockers (a X sign).
  • Stage 2 – once the blocker is revealed the game goes to stage 2 where players pick one of 3 mirrors to uncover a multiplier of x1, x2 or x3.

Phantom Free Spins

Three Chandelier Scatters landing on reels 1, 3, and 5 will award the Free Spins feature. During Free Spins, a chandelier hangs by ropes above the reels with a section of the rope being cut every time a Phantom symbol lands on the reels. When all five ropes next to the reels are cut, the chandelier falls and Free Spins end. The Phantom symbol also acts as a Wild symbol in Free Spins. When a Masked Phantom symbol lands on a reel and cuts the rope section, all Masked Phantom symbols on that reel become fully stacked Masked Phantom symbols from the next spin, and remain stacked, for the remaining Free Spins session.

First Verdict

The announcement of this game took me indeed by surprise and it looks like it is going to be a entertaining slot with some new pay mechanisms and Free Spin features. However, it falls into the same row of low – medium variance games that Netent has mostly produced in the past 2 years which can give long slotting sessions even with smaller balances but all that at the expense of mega win potential. Small to medium wins will be happening probably often enough but I would not expect something a la Jungle Spirit: Call of the Wild™ where wins can go up to 7,680 x bet. We will be much wiser once the game is released for pre-play and I will surely update this page with new screenshots.
